PortMiami

PortMiami is currently undergoing an exciting expansion phase that includes the construction of various new cruise and cargo facilities.  These projects have required that numerous ancillary utility and infrastructure upgrades and expansions be planned, designed and constructed.  All of these large and small projects are being undertaken in close proximity to one another, while the Port remains fully operational.  PortMiami will be providing a tour of existing Port facilities, a look at some projects that are currently under construction and an opportunity to see the sites that are intended for further development as part of this program.

Downtown Miami Pump Stations

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) is continuously putting efforts to upgrade of sewer pump stations, including the installation of new pumps, electrical upgrades, reduction of infiltration and inflow, and the construction of new force mains.  This tour will showcase WASD's efforts in Downtown Miami.

University of Miami Wave and Wind Facility

University of Miami's M SUSTAIN laboratory is a unique resource for fundamental studies on air-sea interactions, wave dynamics, and boundary layer turbulence while providing an experimental test-bed for model development. SUSTAIN addresses a significant gap in the existing research infrastructure available to support the development of disaster-resistant and resilient coastal communities.

Sea-Level Rise Projects in South Beach

Miami Beach and its challenges with sea level rise are a common theme in global conversations regarding climate change. This tour will showcase what The City of Miami Beach is working on to convert these challenges into opportunities, starting with adaptation initiatives such as the installation of pump stations, rising of roads, and other innovative drainage improvements that are informed by the latest scientific data.
